Senior Pastor Search – FAQs

Q1: Why is only one candidate brought to the congregation for approval?

A: According to our denominational rep, bringing only one candidate for approval is wise so that the church does not become divided into groups, each supporting different candidates.

Q2: Are Sanctuary’s three associate pastors eligible to apply for the head pastor position?

A: Yes, all of Sanctuary’s associate pastors are eligible to become the head pastor, but at this time, they have all indicated that they are not interested in applying for the position.

Q3: How is the Interim pastor chosen, and is this person eligible to become our head pastor?

A: The Interim pastor is chosen by the Elder Board, and this person is not eligible to become the head pastor.

Q4: When a final pastoral candidate is brought to the congregation for a vote, what percentage of the vote must be secured to “approve” this person?

A: According to our denominational rep, a pastor would not come to a church without at least 90% support.

Q5: How long will the search process take?

A: On average, the search process takes between a year and 18 months.

Q6: How can I share my thoughts with the Search Team?

A: You can contact any of the Search Team members by email, or submit a question or concern in writing to the drop box next to our display in the Fellowship Café.
